Norwich

Norwich City dates back to Saxon times and hosts one of Europe's biggest unbroken medieval street plans. It has more churches than any other city in England and is the perfect foundation for exploring the Norfolk Broads, the Fens, and East Anglia. Norwich Cathedral has the second highest spire in England and is a fine example of Norman architecture.

Norwich is situated at the very heart of East Anglia and is the county town of Norfolk. The famous market is still going strong since Norman times and in the 17th century cloth from Norwich was exported throughout the world. By the early 1700s Norwich was the second richest city in Britain and was not overly influenced by the industrial revolution concentrating instead on its cloth, brewing and other specialised merchandise.

With the avoidance of the industrial revolution combined with the history of Norwich gives the city a pleasing and comfortable environment.

Built on a towering mote in the 12th century, Norwich Castle dates back to 1160 and served as a prison for 650 years. In 1894 the castle was turned into the museum that remains today. The Castle Museum houses a collection of work from local artists including the Norwich School of painters and The Bridwell Museum is dedicated to local trades and industries.

Norwich is as vibrant as a major city, but as peaceful as a country town. Enjoy shopping in the 900 year old market or small specialist shops and modern arcade. Many cafes and restaurants are available for eating out catering for every taste and budget. The cities theatres and cinemas offer excellent entertainment making Norwich the centre of arts and entertainment for the east of England.

Norwich had a pub for everyday of the year in its history, these days Norwich bars provide high quality and recently a number of new bars have spawned from the development of the attractive Riverside area. Norwich has an excellent selection of night Clubs offering wide ranges of music styles.
